American Dream

Recentemente em um debate com uma amiga*, eu me enrolei na hora de falar do American Dream, eu sempre soube que não era uma busca desenfreada por bens materiais e sim a busca por uma vida livre de opressões, infelizmente não soube dizer isso de forma clara. É sorte que sempre se encontra alguém mais sábio que ajuda, para explicar utilizo as palavras do criador do termo, o escritor e historiador americano James Truslow Adams:

"The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. It is a difficult dream for the European upper classes to interpret adequately, and too many of us ourselves have grown weary and mistrustful of it. It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position"

Eu tentei explicar o american dream porque eu explicava o motivo de não gostar do Obama, ele quer que os EUA se tornem uma social-democracia como as européias. Nada contra a Europa, é um ótimo lugar(eu gostaria muito de morar lá, especialmente nas ilhas), mas os EUA são o last stand of freedom. Estado, por mais "bonzinho" que seja, oprime e espolia, quanto menos melhor, especialmente em um país fundado com os ideais dos EUA.
